Paloma Scott, Registered Psychologist

Paloma Scott founded Insight Solutions Psychology with the vision of creating a place where children, teens, adults, seniors, and families with a variety of difficulties can feel they are heard, have insights and find solutions for challenges in their lives. Our goal is to genuinely help and support people to develop skills, build resilience and excel their lives towards growth, healing, plenitude and success.

Mrs. Scott is a Registered Psychologist in Alberta and she has over eighteen years of experience in the psychology and counseling fields providing therapy to children, adolescents, adults, seniors and families from diverse backgrounds with diverse mental health issues. Mrs. Scott completed her Master of Arts (M.A) in Psychology in 2005 and has been a registered Clinical Counsellor in British Columbia since 2010, and a registered Psychologist in Brazil since 2000. In her professional career, Mrs. Scott has worked in both the public and private sectors, including schools, hospitals, and private practice.

Ms. Scott is a registered provider with Blue Cross, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC),  Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) and the Workers Compensation Board (WCB). In her private practice, Ms. Scott works with a multidisciplinary team of physicians, paediatricians, occupational therapists, speech and language pathologist, physiotherapists in order to provide support to clients.

Mrs. Scott has a great deal of experience working with children who have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), Specific Learning Disorder (SLD), Giftedness, Depression, Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Tics Disorders, etc. Additionally, Mrs. Scott works with people who have difficulties dealing with behavioral, emotional and social issues, including anger management, lack of emotional self-regulation, defiance, social isolation, divorce/ separation, grief/ loss and parenting issues.

According to the client’s needs, Mrs. Scott utilizes a variety of therapeutic approaches, including the evidence-based approaches of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Habit Reversal Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), and Motivational Interviewing in order to support them. Mrs. Scott offers an environment of acceptance and genuine caring to promote the client’s growth.

To help younger children overcome their difficulties and behavioral challenges, Mrs. Scott employs non-directive Play-Based Therapy as an effective approach that provides children with a safe environment to freely express their emotions through play. Parallel to this process, Mrs. Scott provides parents with feedback sessions in order to bring awareness and provide behavioral and coping strategies to better support their child’s mental and emotional well-being at home. When working with older children and adolescents, Mrs. Scott provides individual sessions and parent feedback in order to optimize the parenting style and the family dynamic, when necessary.

Mrs. Scott is able to provide counseling to clients in English, Spanish and Portuguese.

Roche Herbst, Registered Psychologist

Roché is a Registered Psychologist in Alberta with a specialty in psycho-educational, cognitive and psychological assessments for children, adolescents and adults. She has received her Masters Degree in Psychology at the University of South Africa in 2000 and is currently in the process of obtaining her Doctorate degree in Alberta. Roche assists individuals with gaining a better understanding of difficulties and issues related to intellectual functioning, psychological and / or mental health, social skills and behaviours. She provides a variety of assessments and diagnosis, including ADHD, learning disorders, anxiety, depression, OCD, ODD, auditory and visual processing disorders, and giftedness, as well as career assessment. Roché has a braod experience in the psychology and assessment fields, both public and private sectors. She knows what it feels like to live with ADHD and understands the tremendous challenges and opportunities for growth in finding meaning and purpose. Roche has lived, worked and travelled in many different countries with a deep appreciation for diverse cultures and lifestyles. Her goal is for individuals to embrace their uniqueness in building a more joyful, healthy and productive life. Roche provides assessments in English and Afrikaans.

Brenda Kooyman, Registered Psychologist

Registered Psychologist (Children, Learning & Psycho-Educational Assessments)
Brenda Kooyman is a Registered Psychologist with a strong interest in children and learning. She graduated with a BA and B.Ed. and taught Elementary School for eight years. She has over ten years experience as a psychologist working with young children, school age children, teens, and young adults in a educational setting. Her experience as a teacher gives her a unique perspective when conducting in-school assessments, preparing recommendations for learning, and working with schools to set up appropriate accommodations and IPPs. Brenda is also experienced with the challenges of Gifted Learners. While raising her family, she taught a primary oral French program, ran a study program for GATE students, and ran Reading Rescue, an elementary school reading intervention program for At Risk children. Reading Rescue ran in the school using parent volunteers as tutors. She provided advanced reading/writing intervention and tutoring at both Calgary Academy and Foothills Academy. After earning her M.Ed. in Applied Psychology, she worked in assessment, programming, and intervention at both Third Academy and on the Siksika Treaty Lands. Brenda holds a diverse set of qualifications including French as a Second Language, Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing Program, and reading program for children on the Autism Spectrum. Brenda specializes in helping children be the best they can be through an understanding of their strengths and areas of need, learning styles, and use of individualized programming and scaffolding. Areas of Specialization: Psycho-Educational Assessment, Educational Consultant, Preparation of Individual Program Plans (IPP’s), and Reading/Writing Specialist.

Lynn Viehweger, Certified Canadian Counsellor

Lynn has a MA in Counselling and is a Certified Canadian Counsellor with the Canadian Counseling and Psychotherapy Association. She has experience treating issues of grief, loss, anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, etc. Lynn has over 25 years of experience providing counselling to youth, adults, couples and families. She takes an integrated approach to therapy, employing various evidence-based, client-centered therapies including CBT, DBT, EMDR, Mindfulness and Positive Psychotherapy.

Caroline Tarkowski, Certified Canadian Counsellor

Caroline has a Master of Counselling degree and is a Canadian Certified Counsellor. She is certified through the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association and the Child and Youth Care Association of Alberta. She is also trained in Clinical Hypnotherapy and is an active member with the Canadian Federation of Clinical Hypnosis. Caroline has over 10 years of experience with the diverse needs of children, youth, and families. Her approach is client-centred, integrative and trauma informed. She mainly utilizes Play-Based Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution-Focused, Mindfulness, and other approaches. Her other areas of focus include anger management, emotional regulation, anxiety, depression, custody loss, relationships, trauma, self-esteem, stress, and developmental and behavioural challenges with children and youth. Caroline is fluent in the Polish language.
